Hi there! I’m so excited to share the first post from this new food blog, with many more to come. My name is Kristen and I’m a recipe developer by day at Blue Apron- a meal-kit delivery company-and an avid home cook in my off-hours. I’ve lived in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with my boyfriend for the past few years, where we love to try new restaurants and cook together.
I started this Substack to share my love of food, recipe development and food photography with a group of people who share my passion. Cooking has always been a huge part of my life, and when I chose to pursue it professionally after graduating from college, I knew that I wanted to eventually create a space where I could share all of my culinary knowledge creatively and connect with a broader community of home cooks.
This blog will be a place where you’ll learn all about the wonders of anchovies, the benefits of adding vodka to your pie dough, and why a little dash of sesame oil is something you should add to baked goods for added nuttiness. I love a kitchen project and I’ll be documenting all of them here, giving you a front row seat to my recipe development process and sharing all of my successes and probably a few mistakes! I want this Substack to be a place full of culinary creativity, a platform for you to connect with myself and other home cooks, and eventually a compendium of recipes, cooking techniques, my favorite food products, and fun culinary projects.
If you subscribe, expect to receive a weekly newsletter with several recipes centered around a specific ingredient or culinary theme that I’m excited about. On top of that, there will be additional posts sharing the food I’m cooking, a possible peek into my work life at the Test Kitchen, reviews and recipes made from products from local food stores near me, pantry tours, and more.
I would love to hear feedback from you all along the way - let me know what you like and want to see more of, what might not be working, and what else I should be writing about. I want this to be a place that encourages open dialogue and community, so please reach out via the comments or write to me directly.
If you made it all the way to the end here, thank you! I can’t wait to get started with this project and turn it into a vibrant community. Please subscribe and share this Substack with a friend or family member that loves to cook - word of mouth is the best way for this newsletter to grow.
Welcome to my kitchen and table! There is plenty of room, so grab a seat!
